How to get a Dynamic Island on your Mac
The iPhone's Dynamic Island shows live activities around the camera. Macs have the notch but not the island. Here is how to get one that grows and shrinks.
macOS does not have a Dynamic Island. The notch stays a black gap; music, timers and calls live in Control Centre and notification banners in the corner.
What Nibbu does around the notch
- Live activities: the song with bars that move with the sound, a focus timer, the next meeting, charging, AirPods connecting, a download, a screen recording.
- Round bubbles either side of the notch for a second and third activity, like the iPhone.
- A strip that slides out when something happens, and a full panel when you click.
- Macs without a notch get the same thing as a floating island at the top of the screen.
Everything runs on your Mac. Try the notch on this page.
Questions
Does macOS have a Dynamic Island?
No. Macs with a notch show it as a gap in the menu bar. An app such as Nibbu adds live activities around it.
Does it work on a Mac without a notch?
Yes. Nibbu shows the same header as an island floating at the top of the screen.
